How to read clothing care tags

Ifyou've ever taken a look at a clothing tag, you know that you will findnot only the fabric content but also instructions for how to care foryour item.

Adding this information is required per the Care Labeling Rule forany garment that touches your skin. For example, ties are not requiredto comply.

Here's the biggest secret and why it's important for you to pay attention to the labels:

Just because it says Dryclean, does not mean you have todry clean the item. You only have to dryclean if it states "DrycleanOnly." Per the labeling rules, a manufacturer must not say "Drycleanonly" unless they have proof that washing will harm the garment. To besafe, a lot of manufacturers will write "Dryclean" on the top so thatconsumers won't come after them if for some reason they don't take carein washing the item. I recommend to hand-wash or wash it on thedelicate cycle and dry on low heat or air-dry when the label statesDryclean.

There are several variationsto the five standardized care symbols (wash, dry, iron, dryclean, bleach) yet to simplify I have pictured below the main things you needto know and look for.
